2013:  Guest Dog of the Week!  March thru November!
Saturday 10:30 am to 1:30 pm and Sunday 1:30 to 4:00 pm
Talk to responsible dog owners, learn about the breed's history, and ask questions! Guest Dog of the Week is an informal, educational program offering information about different dogs and what breed might be the right canine companion for you and your family. (And don't forget to give Fido a well-deserved pat on the head. He loves meeting our visitors!) Call 314-821-3647 for more information.

2013:  Join us for a Blessing of the Animals on the front lawn of Jarville House (weather permitting) at the Dog Museum on Saturday,
April 13, at 9:00 am.  All creatures, great and small, welcome!!  Dogs on a leash, cats in a crate, birds in a cage, and horses on a halter. This event is free and open to the public!

Matching Membership Fund!
Dog Museum Memberships help support Paws For Reading Program

Through the generosity of the Ann A. H. Warner estate, the Dog Museum is able to match new and renewing memberships at 100% up to $100 to help with specialized training of support dogs used in reading programs for children and young adults.  St. Louis Support Dogs Paws For Reading Program utilizes volunteers from TOUCH (Therapy of Unique Canine Helpers) to assist in reading programs in various classroom and library settings. Paws For Reading Program teams must complete six weeks of TOUCH training and receive an endorsement from St. Louis Support Dogs to be certified and participate in the Paws For Reading Program.
Paws For Reading Program currently serves more than eight thousand children, ages five through twelve.

Paws For Reading Fun Day - Sunday, June 10, 2012
From 1 - 3 pm

Three or more Support Dogs teams will be at the Dog Museum on Sunday, June 10.  Kids can read their favorite story to Fido, and give a loving dog a hug! The Dog Museum provides free festive Goodie Bags filled with fun stuff of the canine kind for pets and kids!  There is no admission charge for children ages 14 and younger on June 10.  Admission for adults and seniors includes touring the exhibit galleries.

June 16   St. Louis PetLover Coalition "Places For Pets", sponsored by Nestle Purina PetCare Co. 10 am to 2 pm
Pick up an illustrated map to more than forty of the most pet-friendly places in St. Louis, including The AKC Museum of the Dog! The Dog Museum's admissions hallway will be a place to "meet and greet" pets in need of adoption.

June 30   How fun is this!  Variety the Children's Charity of St. Louis will hold canine auditions at the Dog Museum on June 30 (9:30am to noon)) for the part of Sandy in its October production of "Annie" presented at the Touhill Performing Arts Center at the University of Missouri - St. Louis.  For more information about Variety Children's Theatre and how to audition your dog to play Sandy, visit www.varietystl.org

July 8    Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Club of Greater St. Louis White Elephant Auction and Potluck Lunch at The AKC Museum of the Dog, beginning at 1pm   Museum visitors welcome!  Join in the fun and meet the friendly Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.

August 12  Don't Miss Out on Schnauzer Day! at the Dog Museum, from 1 - 4 pm

September 25  Save the date! Cocktails at the Dog Museum!  Join the friends of The AKC Museum of the Dog and St. Louis Mercantile Library for cocktails in the courtyard, beginning at 6pm. Guest Speaker STL Mercantile Library Executive Director John Neal Hoover will talk about several rare, important books in the collections of the Dog Museum's Hope A. October 6  Saluki Day! at the Dog Museum, hosted by the Saluki Club of America. The Saluki is "perhaps the oldest known domesticated dog breed" and is highly prized for its for grace, speed and endurance. Colors: white, cream, fawn, golden, red, grizzle and tan, tricolor (white, black and tan) and black and tan.

October 21, Twentieth Annual Pug Party - the Pug Social Event of the Year! hosted by Metro St. Louis Pug Rescue, beginning at noon.

The German Shepherd Dog Club of St. Louis will host its annual Outstanding Canine Awards Presentation at the Dog Museum on Sunday, May 22, 2011.  Awards are presented to police K9 teams in the Greater St. Louis Metropolitan Area who have shown outstanding service. 2010  Updates! The Cam Lyman Gallery renovation is now complete with a new permanent exhibit Sled Dogs: Exploration and Endurance available to visitors.

2010  Updates! Renovations to The Constellation Room were completed in July 2010 with the installation of all new ceiling tiles and incandescent lighting that includes three decorative chandeliers.  The Constellation Room, located off the main level hallway, is used year-round for lectures, dog club meetings, parties, and wedding receptions.  Call 314-821-3647 for information on available dates and pricing.  The Cam Lyman Gallery, located in the lower level of the facilities addition, will be renovated in 2011.

AKC Museum of the Dog receives gift donation of a Commemorative Centenary First Edition Airway Chart of the South Pole Expedition


Join us on Tuesday, November 2 at 2pm in The Constellation Room.  Major General Susan Y. Desjardins will present a Commemorative Centenary First Edition Airway Chart of the South Pole Expedition to The AKC Museum of the Dog on Tuesday, November 2. The aeronautical chart designed by USAF Col. Ron Smith, showing Airway 338 waypoints, was printed by the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency and represents the sled dog teams of Norwegian explorer Roald Amundsen (December 1911) and the pony pack team of British explorer Robert Falcon Scott (January 1912). The commemorative centenary chart is used in international flights from New Zealand to the Antarctica and is presented to The AKC Museum of the Dog on behalf of the Air Mobility Command.
