Maud Earl is the daughter of the dog artist George Earl who was especially known for his paintings of sporting dogs. Maud Earl developed a superb talent for painting purebred dogs with a special gift for capturing the expression and true character of her subject. This lovely pair of Wire Fox Terriers was owned by Kathleen, Duchess of Newcastle. The painting was given to the museum by the estate of Cynthia S. Wood.
